It’s hard even to define what these ‘good manners’ are but we all know instinctively when they are not there.
There are a large number of people who, through circumstance, have no knowledge whatsoever of what good manners are. I find this one of the saddest aspects of the 21st century.
I am old fashioned, convent taught and constantly aware of peoples’ manners. There’s no need anymore for the rigidity of the 1950s, much less the notions of decorum that so occupied the minds of gentlefolk of the Victorian era, just a need for common or garden civility. A little civility goes a long way.
